Historic Tax Credit
Encouraging Historic Building Rehabilitation

The federal government created a Tax Credit incentive in 1976, to encourage historic building rehabilitation.

The federal government offers a 20% credit for historic and architecturally significant buildings and a 10% credit for nonresidential, non-historic buildings built before 1936; a mixed-use project, however, can take the 10% credit on the commercial portion of the rehab.)
