The Streetscape Has Begun!!
The wait is over! We are ready to begin construction on Main Street!
The 2010 Streetscape is scheduled to begin Wednesday, July 21. Construction will begin on the East side of Main Street at 6th Avenue.
The initial stage of construction calls for demolition of 3 blocks on the East side of Main Street. Following demolition, contractors will prepare the area for new concrete.
Construction will follow the same pattern throughout the project with contractors demolishing the area on the East side from 3rd Ave to Rail Road Ave (scheduled to begin August 13th) followed by 6th Ave to 3rd Ave, west side (scheduled to begin September 6th) and finally 3rd Ave to Rail Road Ave, west side (scheduled to begin September 28th).
The final stages of the project include adding the decorative lights and fixtures (benches, statue bases, metal rails, and entry piers).
Things to remember:
1. Parking will not be available on the side of the street that is being worked on, in the blocks being worked on, but the driving lanes will be open at all times. For example parking from 6th Avenue to 3rd Avenue on the East side will be shut down during demolition and construction but the driving lane and parking on the West side will be open.
2. Traffic signals will be shut down according to the demolition schedule. First on 5th Avenue, second 4th Avenue, and possibly 3rd Ave on Friday or Monday. These traffic signals will not be replaced.
3. As construction progresses, streetlights will be taken down. They will not be replaced until sometime in October. The only streetlights we will have toward the end of the project are the very large non-decorative poles.
4. Please remove any private property prior to the beginning of construction on your block to avoid it being caught in the demolition process.
