“May your days be merry and bright.”
For many years, the Aberdeen Downtown Association has taken the initiative to purchase holiday string lights and plan Christmas displays for South Main Street in downtown Aberdeen. Each year when the weather grows colder, our board of directors roll up their sleeves and string Christmas lights down Main Street and through Malchow Plaza. It’s a lot of work, but it is worth it: We want our downtown to feel warm, inviting, and bright for the holiday season for all who visit, shop, work, and live here.
While we have done the best we can with a small budget and DIY grit, we want to go bigger and try something extra special for the holiday season in 2023. Nothing brings people together like the holidays, and we want to cultivate that energy and make downtown a destination for people of all ages to enjoy.
Through our Illuminate Downtown Aberdeen campaign, the Aberdeen Downtown Association is seeking donations to fund a professional holiday lighting installation to make downtown Aberdeen downtown even more of a destination during the holidays. We want to wrap lamp posts, trees, and even install kid-friendly winter characters to make the drive down Main Street joyous and fun. Even though we will still be doing much of the work ourselves, the cost of the professional installation and lights will fall at $20,000.
Imagine strolling down a beautifully illuminated Main Street while shopping for presents and stocking stuffers, sipping on toasty warm coffee or cocoa, and meeting friends and family for a festive December day downtown. Every dollar you can contribute brings us one step closer to making this vision a reality. Together, we can make Main Street a beacon of holiday magic for our community and beyond.
Donate today and let’s light up the season!
