Park Like a Pro
Free 2 Hour Parking
Downtown Aberdeen provides free parking for customers and visitors. Each of the parking spaces along Main Street is free 2-hour parking. There are also parking spaces available on side streets. Other parking lots throughout the Downtown area also have free parking. Downtown Aberdeen wants to be accommodating to those shopping, dining and visiting our beautiful Downtown!
Free Extended Parking
You’ll find free parking that extends beyond 2 hours in a handful of public parking lots, including lots near the public safety building, the fire station and the intersection of Washington Street S and 2nd Ave SE.
As a way to accommodate those who work and live Downtown, a leased parking system has been established. This provides a convenient way for people to have a reserved space for them at all times. Eight parking lots in Downtown have spaces for lease.
Lease a Parking Spot Downtown
The Aberdeen Downtown Association manages the leased parking on behalf of the City. All lessees must follow all policies, rules and laws set forth by the city with regard to parking in the downtown district.
The cost to lease a parking spot ranges from $10 – $25 per month depending on the lot. Parking is leased on an annual or semi-annual basis and can be paid via cash or check. ACH payment is also an option where lessees can have the monthly amount automatically withdrawn from their banking account each month. Contact the ADA if you’re interested in a leased spot.
All vehicles parked in a leased spot must display the parking placard provided by the Aberdeen Downtown Association. Failure to do so may result in a parking fine. Upon renewal, you’ll be sent a sticker to adhere to your parking placard.
Sending your renewal payment? Checks should be written to the City of Aberdeen and mailed to:
The City of Aberdeen
Attn: Deb Cornelius
123 S Lincoln St
Aberdeen, SD 57401
* Please indicate on the check the parking lot and the number of your spot that you are renewing.
Downtown Snow Removal
Much of the Downtown district is part of the commercial zone where parking is prohibited when a snow emergency is declared. Parking on outlying streets is additionally prohibited based on the city’s snow removal schedule.
Downtown parking lots are designated to be cleaned of snow the second night of snow removal operations. Signs prohibiting parking are posted in the lots at least 12 hours prior to the loading and hauling of the snow. Vehicles parked in the lots after clean-up starts will be ticketed and towed. Vehicles that are ticketed are fined a minimum of $40 – a skosh more than typical parking fines, so avoid these! Owners who need to locate their towed vehicles may contact the Police Department at 605-626-7000 between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Paying a Parking Fine
Did you find a pretty little orange parking fine on your windshield? Don’t sweat it, it happens to the best of us. Luckily even when you mistakenly park in the wrong spot for too long, it’s usually not expensive. You have 72 hours from the time the ticket was issued to pay the fine.
If the City of Aberdeen issued you a parking ticket, you can make your payment in any of the following ways:
- Drop it in any of the yellow ticket drop boxes throughout the downtown area
