Free 2 Hour Parking

Downtown Aberdeen provides free parking for customers and visitors. Each of the parking spaces along Main Street is free 2-hour parking. There are also parking spaces available on side streets. Other parking lots throughout the Downtown area also have free parking. Downtown Aberdeen wants to be accommodating to those shopping, dining and visiting our beautiful Downtown!

Free Extended Parking

You’ll find free parking that extends beyond 2 hours in a handful of public parking lots, including lots near the public safety building, the fire station and the intersection of Washington Street S and 2nd Ave SE.

Leased Parking

As a way to accommodate those who work and live Downtown, a leased parking system has been established. This provides a convenient way for people to have a reserved space for them at all times. Eight parking lots in Downtown have spaces for lease.

Lease a Parking Spot Downtown

As of 1/1/2023, all downtown city-owned parking lots are managed by the Aberdeen Police Department. You can secure your annual permits by visiting their site https://ctitt-aberdeen.cticloudhost.com/ . Otherwise, permits for shorter periods of time can be purchased in-person at the Aberdeen Police Department parking division. We want to thank the Police Department and the City of Aberdeen for taking this over in 2023 and streamlining the process for online registry. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this transition time.

Downtown Snow Removal

Much of the Downtown district is part of the commercial zone where parking is prohibited when a snow emergency is declared. Parking on outlying streets is additionally prohibited based on the city’s snow removal schedule.

Downtown parking lots are designated to be cleaned of snow the second night of snow removal operations. Signs prohibiting parking are posted in the lots at least 12 hours prior to the loading and hauling of the snow. Vehicles parked in the lots after clean-up starts will be ticketed and towed. Vehicles that are ticketed are fined a minimum of $40  – a skosh more than typical parking fines, so avoid these! Owners who need to locate their towed vehicles may contact the Police Department at 605-626-7000 between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Paying a Parking Fine

Did you find a pretty little orange parking fine on your windshield? Don’t sweat it, it happens to the best of us. Luckily even when you mistakenly park in the wrong spot for too long, it’s usually not expensive. You have 72 hours from the time the ticket was issued to pay the fine.

If the City of Aberdeen issued you a parking ticket, you can make your payment in any of the following ways:

  • Drop it in any of the yellow ticket drop boxes throughout the downtown area
  • Drop it in the 24-hr. ticket drop box located in the main entrance to the Police Department
  • Mail it in: Parking Division, Aberdeen Police Department, 114 2nd Ave. SE, Aberdeen, SD 57401
  • Drop it off with the Parking Division of the Aberdeen Police Department, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm
