Much of the Downtown district is part of the commercial zone where parking is prohibited when a snow emergency is declared. Parking on outlying streets is additionally prohibited based on the city’s snow removal schedule.
Downtown parking lots are designated to be cleaned of snow the second night of snow removal operations. Signs prohibiting parking are posted in the lots at least 12 hours prior to the loading and hauling of the snow. Vehicles parked in the lots after clean-up starts will be ticketed and towed. Vehicles that are ticketed are fined a minimum of $40 – a skosh more than typical parking fines, so avoid these! Owners who need to locate their towed vehicles may contact the Police Department at 605-626-7000 between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
